Information about the barcode

A barcode scanner or bar code reader is used for the collection of data. It is seen in a position different bar codes and read from it. This is done either with red light or infrared light.

The construction of a bar code scanner is always the same, it consists of a reading unit and a decoding unit. For individual models, such as barcode pens, there are two independent devices.

On the different forms of devices elaborates on the respective bottoms, an overview of the most popular models but you can also find here already.

Laser Scanner

Several laser beams are guided by means of optical systems using the bar code. This is done in a high speed, while the lighter and darker bar code lines are stronger and weaker from the light reflected. This reflection is captured by a lens system and converted into electrical data.

With laser scanners, there are several subtypes, the linear laser scanner, laser scanner with a linear grid, with rotating grid, and Omni-directional laser scanner.

Camera Scanner

Here, the bar code using a small camera is detected. Subsequently, the image made with the help of digital imaging will be processed and then the barcode recorded digitally.

Reading pens

At the top of the reading pens there is a small light-emitting diode and a sensor. If this pen is now drawn by hand on a bar code, the sensor receives the different light / dark lines and sends them to the Downstream decoding unit.

CCD Scanner

Even with this system, the barcode using LEDs for the light and dark signals are scanned. The reflective light is recorded by a CCD or photodiode cell and sent to a Dekodiergerät.

Barcode Card Reader

This is the barcode scanner set up stationary and a printed with a barcode card is drawn through it. As with all other devices are also the recorded signals transmitted and decoded to a Dekodiergerät.
